“Spirituality does not adequately fill the gap left by the decline of religion in today’s society”.Traditionally spirituality has been defined as a process of personal transformation in accordance with religious ideals. In today’s society the number of members in organised religion is declining. Although there is a decline, many ex-members of organised religion are joining spiritual groups. Some could argue that this decline has created a gap in today’s society for many reasons including the lack of morality, protection of the environment and charitability to name a few. Throughout this essay I will argue for against the motion “Spirituality does not adequately fill the gap left by the decline in today’s society.”
In today’s society lots of people religious and non-religious are joining spiritual groups, this has created a decline in organised religions. I am going to explore three sources to show that Spirituality adequately fills the gap left by the decline of religion in today’s society. The Sunday Assembly is a non-religious Community that meet regularly to celebrate life, their mission is to help everyone reach their full potential in life. The Sunday assembly gives a sense of community to people who are non-religious, this gives an alternative to Religion as it is a place where you can reflect upon your life to become a more moral person which goes in line with religious ideals. It provides a place where people can build a community and because of the decline in religion is important to keep members of society connected. The Sunday assembly states, ‘ We want The Sunday Assembly to be a house of love and compassion, where, no matter what your situation, you are welcomed, accepted and loved.’ which suggests they want to help people whatever their life is like to be a happier person and everyone is accepted This shows that the Sunday assembly adequately fills the gap in today’s society as it…
